Time, Trend, Technology

Time is the only true unit of measure. It gives proof to the existence of matter. Without time, we don't exist. (Lucy, 2014)

Have you ever thought that the measurement units we use today are actually codes that have been scaled to the human logic to make our existence understandable?

If we think about it in detail, the units we use to measure phenomena like length, weight, temperature, time and so on are actually the things we use by people to make sense of what's around us.

Therefore, if it was possible for us to communicate with other life forms in another universe, we could see that they also use their own unique units of measurement.

In such a case, we would need a standardization that would allow us to communicate with that life form such as atomic clocks. Because the atoms in the world are also present at the other end of the universe in the same way and they preserve their properties at the atomic level. Therefore, when we make a time calculation on atoms, we would at least have a reference point that can provide calibration in every corner of the universe.

Furthermore, from a scientific perspective, time and motion are intricately intertwined. Physicists define time as the progression from the past to the future, and the time is closely linked to the concept of motion.

While it may seem that an object that remains completely still can escape the destructive effects of time, this notion is challenged by the reality at the atomic level. Even if an object appears physically inactive, there is constant movement and activity occurring at the atomic and subatomic scale.

No matter how inactive an object or organism may appear, time's relentless march shapes our existence, leaving its mark and ultimately leading to our inevitable mortality.

So, this information also leads us to the search for immortality, which has been a trending topic throughout history. There is a very intricate relationship between immortality and mastery of time (or the idea of being independent of time)

.

While the ever-trendy pursuit of immortality was magic in ancient times, it is clear that today's pursuit of immortality is based on science and technology. Also, it is interesting that, according to the famous science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke, any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

Today, we can enter virtual worlds using the most advanced sensors and cameras and VR glasses. These glasses can scan our faces and create avatars that we can use in virtual environments. While doing this, they copy everything from our eye retina to our facial expressions.

Could it be that these technologies, which were first in front of us (television), later in our hands (phones), and now over our heads (VR glasses), are gradually getting closer to the human decision mechanism and aiming to become a whole with them?

We know that a future is being planned in which technological devices will be added under the skin and even to our brain in the next stages. So, is humanity ready for a future where artificial intelligence will be so close to human intelligence, or are we already ready to take any risk as a result of our quest for immortality?

It is possible to say that humanity is closer to taking this risk, considering both the pursuit of immortality, the hunger for learning and insatiable desires. Maybe even transferring our memories and what we have learned to a virtual environment and preserving them to reach future generations can be seen as a kind of solution. So, as we get closer to immortality, will we still be able to remain ourselves? Or, as the famous Alfa Romeo advertisement says it, without the heart, would we be mere machines?

Time will show the final outcome us again!
